Arctic Frontiers.
Arctic Frontiers is an annual conference focusing on the
development potential in the Arctic region and the environmental
challenges it presents. A main goal for Arctic Frontiers is to bring
state of the art scientific results to the table of decicionmakers. It is a prime venue for stakeholders with
interests in circumpolar issues. The conference attracts speakers
from Russia, EU, US, Canada and Norway, as well as other countries and about
600 participants have
attended the conference the last three years.
The conferences are organized by the international research network
ARCTOS, and hosted by the University of Tromsø. The main sponsors of
Arctic Frontiers during the last years were Troms County,
ConocoPhillips, and
the Research Council of Norway.

Arctic
Seas Biodiversity Project
Eni Norge/ Eni E&P commissioned Akvaplan-niva to lead an
applied research project addressing biodiversity in potentially
sensitive areas above the Arctic Circle. The overriding mission
of ASBD is to act as a test case for biodiversity in the marine
environment and to provide Eni with research-based
decision-making power in the field of marine biodiversity. The
project will address primary, secondary and perceived impacts
and take particular care to promote good public relations. ASBD
makes a contribution to basic research, but will also advance on
existing environmental management tools using biodiversity. The
final challenge of the project is to channel the knowledge
gained through research directly into Eni’s operational
practices.
