Cooperation
Akvaplan-niva has a strong and extensive network of both strategic and
project partners.
NIVA group
Akvaplan-niva is part of the NIVA group, headed by the Norwegian Institute for Water Research
(NIVA). The cooperation also includes other companies and institutes in
the NIVA group. For chemical analyses the main partner is the
majority owned laboratory, Unilab Analyse, also situated within the
Polar Environmental Centre.
Akvaplan-niva
is partner within the Polar
Environmental Centre since it was founded in 1994. The institutes located in
Polar Environmental Centre has their focus on environmental research in
the Arctic and within the Barents Region. Other institutes
participating in the Centre include the Norwegian Polar Institute, the
Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), the Norwegian Institute for
Nature Research (NINA), the Norwegian Institute for Culture Heritage (NIKU), Norwegian Geological Survey (NGU), Norwegian
Radiation Protection Agency (NRPA).
ARCTic marine ecOSystem research network - ARCTOS
ARCTOS is a consortium of scientists in arctic marine productivity
and ecology founded by
Akvaplan-niva
AS (APN),
The
University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS),
Norwegian
Polar Institute (NPI) and The University
of Tromsø (UoT:
Norwegian
College of Fishery Science (NCFS) and Faculty
of Science).
The Network has later been joined by 6 Norwegian, 6 Nordic and 22
International institutions, and the network is responsible for a number
of international research projects.
Russia
Akvaplan-niva has been working in Russia since the late 1980s. During
these years the
company has developed an extensive network with Russian
environmental institutes and companies, as well as Russian authorities
and business. This network has made it possible to carry out state of
the art research and consultancy in cooperation with Russian colleagues
both in Russian and Norwegian Arctic. For an overview of scientific

establishing a subsidiary company in Murmansk, Akvaplan-niva Barents. (Read

Coastal Futures
Akvaplan-niva
is part of the
Coastal Futures Consortium, a broad, multidisciplinary group of
companies and institutes dedicated to delivering ICZM and related
projects. The group has nearly 500 specialists with a broad base of
expertise to tackle the challenges presented by the coastal zone: Social
sciences such as law, economics and archaeology, together with natural
sciences such as biology and geology, make significant contributions
towards the understanding of life on the coast and the sustainable
development of activities in this area.
