The NIVA Group
Akvaplan-niva is part of the NIVA group, which constitutes Northern
Europes's largest group of marine and freshwater environmental
researchers and consultants. Other institutes in the group are:

NIVA Norwegian Institute for Water Research is Akvaplan-niva's
principle shareholder (94%) and has it's headquarters in Oslo.
The NIVA foundation is nationally
leading in environmental issues related to water. NIVA is characterised
by broad expert knowledge and good networks to other disciplines. NIVA
has more than 130 researchers in the fields of chemistry, biology,
limnology, geology, hydrology, environmental technology, environmental
toxicology, oceanography, geography, resource management and economy.
The research aims towards developing complete and thorough management
systems for water resources, considering fresh water, marine water,
chemistry and biology as interdependent components. Other NIVA
subsidiaries are: AquaBiota Water Research in Sweden.

its 100% owned subsidiary Akvaplan-niva Barents, Akvaplan-niva
offers it full range of services in Russia.

Unilab Analyse AS is 51% owned by
Akvaplan-niva and located in Polar Environmental Centre in
Tromsø. Unilab Analyses offers chemical analytical services, specialising on
oil
hydrocarbons, lipids and chlororganic compounds

Miljøservice Trøndelag AS: Akvaplan-niva and NIVA jointly own 35% of
Miljøservice Trøndelag, a company providing consultancy and
analytical services for soil quality.

NIVA-tech AS:
NIVA-tech AS is NIVA’s legal
and organisational unit, which is responsible for transferring NIVA’s
know-how, services, products and technology into profitable business
ideas

Envira:
Envira is an alliance of Norways major environmental institutes.
Akvaplan-niva participates though it's mother organisation NIVA. Envira's
main purpose is to combine coordination of research with: Global
Environmental Changes, Water, sea, earth, air and ecosystems as a whole, Integrate evaluations
of environmental questions
