Development of guidelines, regulations, monitoring programs, QA procedures

Akvaplan-niva’s broad experience with environmental monitoring in tropical, temperate and arctic environments is also used to assist petroleum companies and authorities in developing guidelines and regulations. We have for example designed national standards for sampling and sample analyses, national guidelines for offshore monitoring and national handbooks for oil spill cleanup. Akvaplan-niva also assists with the development of new assessment techniques, conservation strategies and the harmonization of procedures for international EIA’s and coastal zone management planning. The design and supervision of laboratory intercalibration exercises is another example of our work with harmonization and standardization.

Courses, seminars, conferences

Akvaplan-niva organizes courses and seminars on environmental issues on request. We have in the past organized international courses and workshops on EIA, oil spill combating in arctic regions, biodiversity and marine conservation areas and environmental monitoring. We also provide university courses on tropical aquaculture, new aquaculture species and environmental management. In addition, we can be technical organizer and provide secretarial support and other infrastructure for conferences and other arrangements on behalf of clients.

Project development and strategic planning

We provide professional secretarial help supporting large projects and working groups. We have had such roles for several environmental working groups appointed by the oil and gas industry and for the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO). We also assist industry and authorities in planning and designing strategies for business and human capital development.
