Recipient waters - carrying capacity

Local studies, documenting the effects of municipal sewage and industrial discharges on marine and freshwater environments are used to facilitate optimal positioning of outlets and estimation of the extent of waste water treatment required. Modelling of the probable in-layering depth of the discharge is an important tool in this kind of studies. Oceanographic models are used to calculate the carrying capacity of recipient waters. Another important aim with recipient monitoring is to document the environmental conditions in the area in accordance with national regulations.
